Digital Rights and Responsibilities
Digital Rights and Responsibilities
Sara and Kiana
In this stage we researched the meaning of digital rights and responsibilities here is a summary of out investigation.
The topic that we choose to do is rights and responsibilities in digital citizenship. Rights and responsibilities are the privileges and freedoms extended to all digital technology users, and the behavioral expectations that come with them. Digital rights and responsibilities are things like the right of copyright, and plagiarism. Also things like downloading music, movies and television shows being downloaded for free. Other issues include the use of the internet, especially at schools. Another issue is cell phones.
Plagiarism means copying or using sites that are not properly cited, or giving credit to the author. This includes books, websites, magazines etc. It is a big problem in schools, and it is good to get away from it, and get used to it at younger ages. You must site the sites etc that you use to avoid plagiarism and trouble. Especially in higher grades like grade 11 and 12 and universities where it get very serious, such as getting kicked out of the school or university.
Another big problem is the copyright of music, movies, and television shows. A lot of people download music for free on the internet and various programs, which is illegal and practically stealing. But some people do not understand how serious it is. What happens is that the artists that produce the song and etc do not get money for the songs that people are downloading straight off the internet for free.
The issue of the use of computers in school is a problem, and people take advantage of the computers at school sometimes. For example people going on games etc, and other things that are not school related, or used for educational purposes. Even outside of school the internet is used inappropriately, and it is your responsibility to know what is appropriate and what is not.
All these issues that we found affect the student in his/her everyday school life so we need to help them understand their responsibility towards these issues.

In this part we need to deiced what class were presenting to and how we are going to present our information.
Our lesson on digital rights and responsibilities is going to based on and aimed to focus on content for people of grade six. Therefore we need to make the lesson interactive and include easy vocabulary. We are going to try and make the lesson as interesting as possible for the grade sixes so that it is easy for them to concentrate and make it more fun so they learn more from the lesson. So that is why we are going to include game, which is interactive, and a handout that is colorful and includes pictures. The game will be done using PowerPoint. We will have the class split into two different groups and play against each other, answering questions about digital rights and responsibility. The handout will include main points about what digital citizenship is about, and what we are going to talk about through out the lesson. Then we will let them ask questions in the end before we play the game. The brochure will include things about plagerism and how you must use bibliographies for books, websites, etc. The brochure will also include things about downloading illegal music, using the internet appropriately, and also some things about using cell phones, especially in schools. Then the game will just ask questions about the things that were just discussed.
this is a time-line of

We were going to present on Wednesday third lesson we came in break and worked on setting the computer up having the videos ready fixing the volume and printing the brochures and the licenses and cutting them up so that break gave us an opportunity to get ready then when we finished the class came in we had difficulty getting them to be quiet and to focus on the presentation thank god Mrs. Lindsay was their first we started by introducing our selves then we started by asking them questions about if they used the computer in what manner did they use it in? and questions to start them thinking of the topic. After, doing that we then started to hand out the brushers and read them through with them then we read them and explained them in detail, when we were explaining plagiarism we should them a video on plagiarism that people tend to plagiarize when they are busy and they don’t have time to produce their own work we then showed another video that plagiarism doesn’t result a positive result because firstly you didn’t understand what written and you’ll get a bad grade. Then to finish up by splitting the class into 2 groups and played the game both groups got all the answers correct which shows that they understood the information that was presented to them. At the end of our lesson we wanted to present them with something that shows that now they understand what Digital rights and responsibility is and now they have no excuse to not be responsible we made them sign them and we said we will laminate them and give them to their teacher next week. So throughout this project I have learned that the design cycle if done properly and specifically it could really result a good income. We had our time managed well which also helped us create a good income. If there could be any improvement I could try to work more on the brochure to make it more clearly and also to work on our PowerPoint game because it had the right and wrong slides at the end. SO if I had more time I would have done that.Though out the project I’ve learned many lessons. The first was organization plays a very important role also that we had to plan out lessons out make sure we aren’t wasting any lessons, to have back up saves for everything. It was fun having an experience like this taking a role of a teacher and seeing how hard it is to teach a class a lesson.
Sara and I have finally finished presenting last week. Overall the class went good, but there is always room for improvement. We started off by introducing ourselves, and then by asking questions and interacting with the students, and asking them questions, to see how much they knew. We asked questions like, how many of you use the internet, what do you use the internet for and etc. We then gave our brochures, and explained thing in the brochure, then afterwards watched the 2 different movies, and explained them, and asked what they thought of them first, and what they thought it meant. Then in the end came the game. I think that I could have done better if I had said more, instead of letting sara explain everything and doing all the talking. So this might have shown that sara had done more of the work than me, because she said more, but through out the whole term, we had divided the work equally. Also I could have spoken more confidently, and louder, since I was “a teacher”, and this would have helped the students.
Through out this project on digital citizenship, I’ve realized how hard it is to teach a lesson, and how much work it is for teacher, having to plan all the different lessons they have in one day. Sara and I put a lot of hard work into this project. But I must says that there were some lessons where we wasted some time, and not realizing how much more work we had to do, and how close the deadline was. Before the break, we had also lost some work we had done, which was on the game, and so we had to redo that. So during our practice lesson in front of our class, it didn’t go that well, and we weren’t that prepared. We had finished out brochure by that time, but still had a few flaws, and we didn’t even have the game, because we lost it on the computer and didn’t have a back up file. We also didn’t know what we were going to say or anything. So I think that this lesson really helped us realize what things we still needed to work on, and what we had to improve. After this lesson, over the break we both communicated and work on the game, and then when we came back from the beak, we had a few more lessons, so this is when we both did the last little things, like printing, and folding the brochure. We then also decided that we would show two videos, from youtube, because the kids would like that, and the videos we used were funny ones, so that the kids would learn more from it if it was something they could remember it from.
